About John Neubauer, Teacher and Innovator
John Neubauer (60)
began practicing Yoga daily in 1973 upon the recommendation of friends
who said it might help debilitating leg cramps that occurred during his
time playing college basketball. He started teaching in 1974 after
taking over ownership and management for a few years of Yoga East in
Louisville, Kentucky. He started
practicing Tai Chi daily in 1975. He blended the two into a single art
form in 1977, which he has practiced and taught since then. His daily
practice consists of a 70-minute morning routine and a 30-minute
evening routine of Tai Chi Yoga, meditation, scripture study and
prayer.
He learned Yoga
from Maja Trigg (Louisville, Kentucky) and Swami Vishnudevananda's camp
in the Bahamas. His Yoga was also influenced by writings of B.K.S.
Iyengar. He first learned Tai Chi (Wu-style) from Kevin Akers
(Louisville) and Gia-Fu Feng in the French Alps. His Tai Chi was also
influenced by Master Cheng Lu (Yang-style, Salt Lake City) and Master
Alfred Huang (Wu-style, Maui).
John has taught Tai
Chi Yoga to thousands around the world over the past 30+ years.
His students have consisted of dancers, athletes, corporate executives, laborers, and people of all ages
and shapes.
He was introduced
to Taoism by Gary Schmalfeldt (Des Moines, Iowa) and was most
profoundly influenced by the Tao Te Ching translation of Gia-Fu Feng.
He presently offers teaching to on-site corporate seminars and private
students studying to teach Tai Chi Yoga.
John was born
(1948) and raised on a farm outside Pontiac, Illinois. He was a
high-school valedictorian (Saunemin, Illinois). He graduated with
honors and has an accounting degree from Drake University in Des Moines
(1970). His professional career has been a blend of entrepreneurial
business ventures and public service projects. He was featured for
example in The Journal of Accountancy in 1971, in
Success Magazine in 1994, and in many feature stories in The Des Moines Register.
John currently is
a principal in the Jim Sumpter Show, a nationally-syndicated talk radio
show based in Salt Lake
City, Utah. He also is a principal and the Chief Operating Officer for
Assured Ventures, Inc. based in American Fork, Utah, a real estate
